Junior cricket caters for all ages and genders, starting with SHCC’s Milo In2Cricket, which runs on Friday evenings for 12 weeks each summer at Pratten Park. This program caters for children under 8 years old, and provides a great opportunity to learn some of the more basic cricket skills of bowling, batting and fielding in a non-competitive environment.
Players then move into the U9 competition which runs on Saturday mornings, and is a modified version of the game. Players wearing full cricket gear bat for a set number of overs, with any wickets deducted from the team’s score. The ball used is plastic, and everyone bowls. This format is an excellent introduction to ‘real’ cricket.
Juniors teams are fielded in all age groups from U9 to U16, with many of our 16’s going on to join one of our seniors’ sides. Junior Cricket is played on Saturday mornings, generally starting at 8:30am and finishing at about 12:30. All teams from the Under 10s and above use leather balls, pads, helmets and all the equipment similar to seniors.
